Riggle VTAF

I have noticed comments on the Riggle VTAF here and there and may have missed a thread specifically dealing with this product, but I am wondering if anyone would like to comment on this product and how it works with your set-up. I like the idea of VTA on the fly but it seems to go against the idea of a firm lock of the tonearm with the armboard. But then maybe this acts as a decoupling devise where you don't want rigid coupling with the armboard. Maybe you want a little wiggle with your riggle, so to speak. Any experience and advise would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

I bought a VTAF and sold it on this forum because I was chicken about installing it with my Rega 600/Linn Sondek. Now I've bought John's AQ with the VTAF already installed on his(mine) HW19 VPI.

I'll post about it when I receive it. I've been wondering about what affect it will have on a record's sound.

I have VTAF installed on my VPI Scout, with an Origin Live OL1 tonearn, VTAF is nice, because you can adjust it while you are playing, and you can really hear the difference.

One point, is that VTAF is audible when you have a contact line stylus. If you have an elliptical stylus, you are not likely to hear much of a difference. With my contoured contact line, I can hear the difference when it is off. So I simply get up and adjust it while playing. A few minutes ago, I was playing and old Sheffield Lab LP, Harry James "The King James Version." I did not like the sound of Harry's trumpet, so I got and turned the VTAF adjustment about 1/2 a turn, and Voila the sound was great.

So this is a great tool an Audio Techno Bigot.

Should be shipped tomorrow to you, Paul...I worked to two days to make it as foolproof a 50-odd lb turntable package as I could fathom

I bought this item, installed it, and have experienced noticeable subsequent TT improvement on my Rega P25/RB600. YMMV.

PS Use a Fostner bit for installation, and take your time.

I installed the VTAF on my Systemdek IIX w/Rega RB250. The arm sits in a bronze base and is surprising stable for not being snugged down to the plinth. I had experienced VTA adjustment at a friend's with his Sumiko SHO, which I believe uses a Shibata (similar to line contact) stylus and could pick out correct VTA with ease. It was as if the rhythm section just stepped forward into the recording. At home with the micro-ridge stylus of my Karat it's the soundstage size that's most evedent. For me I have basic settings I use for the different thicknesses. Ahh for the SHO  alas, they don't last and can't be rebuilt.

If you're armboard is removable, Pete Riggle will drill it out for you (at least he used to offer that to folks).  He's really a nice fella' up here in WA :thumb:

Thanks for the replies so far. Are there any problems making the armhole larger to accept the VTAF? I would need to that for my deck.
