A woman at my work was recently researching on-wall speakers because she wanted to set up a home theater down in her basement.  She wanted all of the gear off the floor in case of flooding.  Eventually she went with some KEF on-walls which she got a deal on.

I think they're a great idea as well as long as they sound good.

An on wall option is actually one that I had thought of for my current system. If I had done that I would have attempted to make a variation of the NEO 2X with some, slightly radical box design that would have made them unable to stand on the floor, rather they could only be attached to the wall. However, that would have meant even more carpentry.

Frankly, or in my case Fredly, I appreciate the whole Audiophile experience, but I have often wondered at the impracticality of it, especially when speakers have to be placed so far from a wall just to sound good. If a speakers sounds horrid up close to a wall, then...

So yeah, how about some GRish quality awesome speakers that are meant to be as close to the wall as possible. Not necessarily in the wall, and not necessarily tiny  :D

Is it better than this one?

He doesn't know. He hasn't heard them. He took some speakers that he had and made new boxes for them that allowed him to mount them on the wall. This is not the same as an omni on wall.

I do have an on wall idea that I have been kicking around for a while now. It takes on wall to another level and solves limitations that wall mounting creates. However, it will take a big driver commitment (new driver design) and some time that I really can put on it right now.

When I get a lot of other projects completed and moving then I will focus on this concept.

And I am really not going to share the ideas right now or some other company would just steal it.

It will happen when I am ready.

I know, just giving him a hard time because he slapped together an onwall and is ready to go into production.

I wonder how the omni surrounds would sound if they were mounted 3' from the floor.

Hey, I was just asking. Omni on walls are definately not what I'm trying to achieve. It's a sensible idea, though. I just want to know who thinks its worth exploring. Solving limitations virtually without drivers also sounds like a good idea. DIY Man!

It is a good idea. The more placement options we have the better.

I use those as the rear channels on the ceiling. I just mention it as an interesting concept that works good for me.
