active loudspeaker

Hi Jason,

Any plans to release and active loudspeaker, especially a desktop model? Looking at the current success of the AVI ADM 1.9. I think Nuforce can do very well in this category.

Any update on a potential release date? Any special features planned for these, like a USB port or remote volume control?

i recently read about the AVI 9.1, and i felt that it was the way forward for music lovers that need quality hifi but don't want/don't need/ don't care about all the audiophile clutter: separates, cables.

the icon solution is great for desktop hifi. the same approach would be desirable for the main hifi sets.
just larger speakers, decoration friendly veneers and remote.

as speakers, even active ones, can have a working life of 20+ years, i would probably prefer the dac+preamplifier* to be separated. digital standards have shorter life spans.

to make the system fully scalable to big rooms, i would include the posibility of two subwoofers.

*off topic: i would have certainly upgraded my P8 preamplifier if the headphones output would have been changed to an USB/spdif input.

Wish List:

-NuForce Class-D amplification (obviously)
-Waveguide-loaded hard dome tweeter
-'British' voicing (with smooth, non-aggressive treble)
-Optical S/PDIF input, USB DAC, or stereo analog input. (If sacrificing one of the three, get rid of the USB DAC, but keep SPDIF input).
-Mono-sum RCA Subwoofer output, wherein connecting a subwoofer to the output causes a 70 Hz 24dB/oct high-pass to be applied to the speakers (similar to the way in which connecting headphones to some speakers will cause the speakers to shut off)
-Internal power supply (no brick or wall-wart)

Another spot where NuForce could beat Audioengine is to offer a powered, timbre-matched MTM center channel speaker. Right now there's no good solution for a powered home theater system that isn't a Logicrap system.
