BD Burner experience?
« on: 2 Feb 2009, 03:43 pm »
Has anyone bought a BD burner yet?  I've been itching to buy one and have only been waiting for the prices to drop a bit and the technology to stabilize (first adopters seem to get all the bugs).

On am still on-the-fence, but the benefits are starting to look really attractive.  I like the thought of being able to backup the whole system disk onto one disk, especially with my luck with recent systems.  Also, one can make physical backups of music libraries in less disks.  Even if you only get 20gb on each 25gb disk, you only need some 50 disks to do a terabyte.

Maybe I am just a little paranoid, but I really don't want to re-rip my collection.  HD's just aren't that reliable, even in RAID configs.

I really want to do a NAS.  I've been saying that for a long time and it is really another topic, but I'm watching the tech off and on to see when the UI gets a bit more bug free and the pricing gets a bit more attractive.  As we have multiple PC's, and I don't see that changing anytime soon, it would really be nice to have a central file server for sharing.
