LS 100 - First Impressions and Tube Rolling
« on: 26 Oct 2010, 01:27 am »
I just received my LS-100, serial number (100)014.  This is one beautiful unit.  The workmanship is outstanding.  The front panel is quite sleek looking but there are tons of options for inputs, balance, etc.

I quickly cracked open the unit to start the tube rolling.  The cover is secured to the base with no fewer than 24 screws.  My first set of tubes are 2 NOS Sylvania JAN 6SN7GT / VT-231s and 1 5AR4 Tube RCA GZ34 FAT BOTTLE.  I have not used these tubes in any other equipment so I will have to learn how they sound once they are broken in.

I didn't bother to power it up before putting in the other tubes.  If the design was coverless like the Carys I would have done that but it takes a bit of time to remove the cover and change the tubes.

I have other tubes ready to go once I feel these are broken in.  Next up will be a pair of Hytron JAN CHY 6SN7GTs.

Hi Dave and thanks.  Please do share all of your experience and feedback with the LS 100, including tubes you prefer, etc.  I look forward to reading more.

Take care,

Dan

^ Word.  And please put the stock tubes back in and listen; then you'll have a baseline and can share which tubes sounded better to your ears and why.

Thanks.
