Just wondering: is the SACD of Modern Cool the way to go or is the original Blue Note recording OK?  Thanks in advance.

I can't comment on her SACDs, but all of her conventional CDs are among the best sounding recordings you can get IMHO. I doubt you can go wrong either way.

She sounds sooo much better on vinyl :D . The Vinyl gives more of a "Live Recording". I can see her live @ the Green Mill in Chicago for $7.00 alnost every Monday Night. Great place to see a show.. Al Capone  used to go there in the old days :uzi: .. Can't be all bad :D

I need to make to make it to the Mill to see her sometime. I saw her at College of DuPage, and while she played very well and the sound was OK (the PA system wasn't audiophile quality :nono: ), I can't imagine a better place for her style of music than an old speakeasy!

I have both and didn't hear a big difference. The CD sound is one of the best.

KKM, if you didn't hear a difference it must be you analog set-up :?: I have done numerous AB comparisons with 4 of my friends and all of them said the vinyl was the best. Let me also ad that my analog set-up is FAR superior to my Digital. I know that had a lot to do with the sound. I still feel vinyl is much better sounding than CD's IMHO..  :D. Either way she is a great singer and great to see live..

Hey Darth, is Patty back for Monday nights? If so, that's great. Music at the Green Mill is a neat experience. Very intimate setting; to hear world class musicians sitting no more than 15' away is an awesome trip. Watching Barber working the keyboard of that 9' Steinway really earned my admiration; man can she tickle the ivory! All for 7 bucks!  She doesn't engage the audience much, though. It's like sitting in on a recording session. The group plays its music, and audience sits and listens.
SHUT UP - NO TALKING!

The Green Mill has a SHUT UP policy for everyone. I'll never forget seeing Paul Wertico there once. My wife and I met my niece there, who we hadn't seen in a long time. The two of them were talking, and we were unfortunately right next to Wertico. He finally leaned over and said "do you mind? We're having a concert here!" Oops. After the set he sat down with us and was very nice (the fact that my niece is cute didn't hurt I'm sure).

Darth,
I was referring to CD vs SACD, haven't heard the vinyl version, sorry for the misunderstanding.

I have a couple of Barber's albums in vinyl also, and they do sound very good, but I believe they were recorded in the digital domain so the difference between the vinyl and the cd are not as great as some other recordings.

not worth the diff imho

i bought the sacd (overpriced mofi) hoping there would be a significant diff, there wasnt.  the vinyl would seem to be the way to go, wish i had spent my $30 THAT way instead of on the mofi!

sacd is the way to go for many things, and if you dont have vinyl ability, go that way but the PB wasnt that much better if at all.
