My Cornet 2 is operational! Many thanks to Mr Hagerman and Jim Howard for their help!
Also, based on the experiences of Jim Howard and Bill Epstein, along with advisements I read from Mr Hagerman, I stuck with the Schottky Diodes. I am not sure what I'll do with the Hexfreds yet, but I may try them someday in the H+. Sometimes though, it's just nice to K.I.S.S.
At first the C2 sounded a bit thin, but my H+ was only 5.7V with the 1.8 Ohm. Switched out for a 1.2 to bring it up to 6.0V and had another listen. It was louder and more dynamic, but still sounding off, so I hooked it up to my hag iRIAA (my first project!) and my CD player and let it run for a few days. Last night things started to come together! A great improvement in dynamics, smoothness and imaging. Freddie Hubbard's Trumpet sounds like it is in the room! Supposedly, the teflon V-caps I have in C203 have a long and sometimes painful break-in up to 400 hours! So after about 40 it is already sounding great. Another few weeks of burn-in and some tube-rolling and this thing will be uber-great. Speaking of tubes, any suggestions. Right now I have a Russian 5V3C as the rectifier (it sounds much better than the sylvania 5y3 it replaced), a Brimar 13D5 (12au7) and 2 amperex bugle boy 12ax7s. I am going to pick up some tungsram 12ax7s as there seems to be a consenus that these are some of the best sounding. Any other suggestions?
