Best way to connect servo subs...
« on: 15 Jul 2010, 11:46 pm »
Hi All,

I have a pair of V1s singing nicely and am thinking of using a receiver for Home Theater duties.  The servo subs play high enough where I don't want to feed them each a  mono signal. I have a few questions for anyone.

1.  Is there an advantage to running low level vs high level inputs on the servo amps?  If not, I could run the left speaker cable to the left speaker, and then run a wire from the speaker to the left high level input of the servo amp.  I could do the same for the right speaker.  Any opinions on high level vs low level input on the servo amps?

2.  The receiver has only one subwoofer pre-out.  I want to run the subwoofers in stereo.  Is there a way to do this?   I guess the question is how does one use an external crossover or any means to get stereo subwoofer signals from one sub out?

Thanks in advance and forgive me if it's a silly question.

Hi - the sub output on an A/V receiver is for the ".1" LFE channel - you can't get a stereo signal from it. Most likely I suspect that you would want to simply set the L/R channels to "large" in the receiver so that they get a full-range signal and connect the V1s with the servo amps driven on the speaker-level inputs.

What John just told you is the only way it's going to work with that receiver.
