Duet Receiver Firmware Update?
« on: 16 Dec 2008, 02:15 am »
Is there any button combination on the Duet controller that is the equal of holding down the brightness button on the Squeezebox remote to force a firmware update on the Duet Receiver? If not, how can a firmware update be forced?

Thanks!

Jim

There's a menu option on the controller for "Software update" under the Advanced section which updates it.

Interesting. It's not available under SqueezePlay's menu options.

Hi BradJudy,

Thank you for the response. I was aware of the option but understood it to update the controller software rather than the receiver. From page 29 of the user manual:
(paste)
Updating Squeezebox Controller
You’ll see a message on your Controller when a software update is available.
To manually reinstall the software on your Controller, start at the Home
screen and select Settings > Advanced > Software Update > Network
Update.

Updating Squeezebox Receiver
The software on your Receiver is automatically updated; you may see the
button on the front of the unit flash white while the update happening.
There is no way to manually reinstall the software on your Receiver; if you
believe you need to reinstall the software, please contact Logitech Technical
Support.
(end of paste)

I'm interested in the work around to force an update. I'm trying to roll back to firmware #48 to compare it to #55 that was with the new 7.3 update.

Thanks!

Jim

Sorry, I misread your post and thought you wanted to update the controller.

Ok, the receiver does in fact update automatically. It just takes a while.

Thanks for the replies!

Jim, I'm not sure but I think the Squeezebox FW Selector (do a search here on AC) now supports the Duet. It may get you where you want to go.

Hi Tonyptony,

Yes, that's what I'm using but unlike the Squeezebox, you can't force an immediate firmware update. You have to wait until the receiver does it automatically.

BTW, 48 sounds better than 55.  :D

Okay. What version of SC is 48 in, BTW?

48 is in version 7.2. I think I was running 7.2.1 to be exact.

The differences I hear aren't big and depending on how revealing your system is, may not be audible to some. What I'm hearing is less of a 3-dimensional sound and a hint of stridency on certain passages. Version 48 is full sounding with lots of presence and not a hint of stridency.

All that said, I only use my system to listen to music from my music server. I'm not interested in all of the features that are added to the new builds which may require the newer firmware. So, if the new features are important, check carefully to make sure the features you enjoy are supported in version 48. I continue to compare firmware with each new role out so I can have the latest firmware possible but not at the expense of sound quality which is most important to me.

If you reinstall version 7.2.1, will the firmware go back to version 48?

Does your Duet have any upgrades?

It should revert if you wipe out everything before the reinstall.

My Duet is stock and is used only as a transport. I have a Pacific Valves DAC-62 with EH 6922 tubes.

Is there a link for the Duets firmwares?  I recently updated to SC 7.3.1  which installed FW55, even using the Duet with my external dac the sound is more metalic in the highs compared to the FW that was with SC7.2.1 so I'd like to compare different versions of firmware

Edit
I found it http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/
Just tried FW48,  it sounds less metalic !

BTW, thanks to Mike for making this handy little program available to us, it works fine with Vista and the Duet Receiver  :thumb:
