Talk to me about the Rythmik GR drivers
« on: 18 Dec 2008, 04:05 pm »
Danny,

I have a "customer" that bought my UFW-12 expecting it to be upgraded. Months later it still sits at another friend's house awaiting said upgrade.

Would your new 12" work in this enclosure...I think I figured roughly 2.5cu ft which is a bit large but that was using outside dimensions. I can also decrease the volume as necessary.

I would like to put the servo control amp in but I don't think he will be down for the expense so I was thinking either de-limiting the stock amp or fitting a BASH 500w in.

Thoughts?

Obviously not trying to steal Danny's thunder here, but the suggested sealed volume for the Rythmik aluminum cone DS1200 driver and A300SE servo amp is 2.2 to 2.4 cu. ft.

Tell your "customer" that I would be VERY interested to hear this sub before it leaves your grubby mits.  I'm still planning on building a servo sub myself in the next few months.

Well, if the external dimension volume is 2.5cu ft, then the internal would be close to 2.0cu ft which can still use GR SW12-4 and A300SE. This is a very affordable combination.

Actually it turns out it's closer to 5...yipes!

I suppose an isobaric setup would work...what a freaking mess though.

I will be building my own servo version here soon...working out the box specs.

What are the diffs between the DS1200 and the GR 12"?

Hey, Bill!  Check out this link where Danny introduced the GR drivers:

and if you haven't been there yet:

I heard a beta of the UFW12HR at Bob's GTG and FWIW, I've now got a pair of the sealed Rythmik subs with GR drivers; Brian took care of me while Ascend is getting stuff sorted out and was great to do business with. :)

What are the diffs between the DS1200 and the GR 12"?

GR 12" is paper cone, and DS1200 is aluminium.
Being lighter, GR 12" can be crossed upto 120Hz, but the DS1200 is recommended till about 80Hz.
GR 12" is less $$$ :)

[EDIT:] I meant 5 cu ft will be good for a dual then (2 drivers driven by one amp). 300WRMS is good for 5 cu ft internal volume if you can place 2 drivers close to each other.
