Hey gang,

I have an extra copy of a 200g heavy vinyl pressing of Duke Ellington's Blues in Orbit

I am going to raffle off this LP right here on the Omega forum on AC.  I have played this LP once on my SOTA Star Sapphire turntable.  There are two pops that can be heard in the dead space between tracks one and two on side one, and there is a very tiny inaudible hairline scratch on track 2 on side two (you will not be able to see it unless you inspect the LP closely with a very bright light).  Other than that the LP sounds fantastic.  It is now on backorder and will very likely go out of print.  I paid $32.99 for this record and took delivery of it just about a week ago.  I won't go into why I ordered a second copy since that is irrelevant.  Suffice it to say that this excellent album will be going to a lucky Omega speaker owner for free.

Here is how it will work.  Anyone who is interested in the drawning must reply to this thread asking to be entered for the drawing - it costs you nothing to enter.  The deadline for entries is 3:00PM EST Sunday, November 30th.  After that no new entries will be accepted.  At 6:00PM EST on Sunday I will print out all of the entries and cut them into slips, fold them up, place them in a jar, give it a few shakes, and then have one of my daughters draw a slip.  The member who's name appears on the slip drawn will get the LP.  This drawing is open only to registered AC members who own or have on order a pair of Omega speakers and own a turntable.  I have no way of knowing whether or not someone meets these requirements, so this will work on the honor system.  It would also be nice if entrants were at the very least jazz fans or liked Duke Ellington, but that is not necessary.  The winner will be required to provide me with a mailing addres via PM.  I will anounce the winner on Sunday night, and that person will have 48 hours to claim their prize.  I will then mail the LP via US Postal Service Media Mail as soon as I can get to the post office.  I will pay the postage for shipping this LP to any address in the US.  If you live outside the United States you may still enter, but you will be responsible for the shipping costs.

This is intended to be a gift of music to a fellow Omega Loudspeaker owner, and it is my wish that the winner keep the album for their own personal use.  Please don't disappoint me by flipping the record to eBay for a few bucks.

Finally, there is ONE, and only ONE record being given away in this drawing.  Louis has given permission to me to run this giveaway, but Omega is not sponsoring this drawing and is in no way responsible for it or the album.  I am not offering any kind of warranty on the record whatsoever.  It is being provided AS IS.

Good luck!

I do not have a turntable and therefore am not eligible, but I do have the CD.
This is great music pure and simple.  Duke Ellington did not write music for various instruments to play; he wrote music specifically for the individuals who played those instruments.  The tonal colors produced, the interaction between players, the sense of timing; its all there.

I trust that it is well understood that Omega Speakers above all others allow you to both hear and feel all of this.  Duke Ellington's highest compliment was to say that something is "Beyond Category"

This Album on Omega Speakers qualifies for that statement.

Thank you Jerome for your most generous gesture.

Hi Jerome,

Thanks for the kind gesture :)

I love Jazz, this album is on my wish list, I own an LP12 and I would love the chance to be entered :)

Thanks and regards,

Steve

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have Alnico SuperHemps and dual DeepHemps.  :thumb:

Hi Steve,

I'll be happy to enter you, but if I recall correctly you live in Australia.  You may have to pay the postage if you win.  US Postal Service Media Mail is an inexpensive way to ship records, CDs, books, etc, to addresses in the US.  This service is not available to addresses outside the US.

I'll look into the international postage rates and if it isn't too much more costly to ship it to your location then I'll cover it.

I have Super 5s happily driven by a Glow One SET amp, but no Ellington on Vinyl, so throw my name into the jar please.

Cheers, Hank Murrow

Jerome,

Beau geste!  If I win, I'm pulling my Sony turntable (made by Technics) out of the attic and hooking it up.

Yes, great idea Jerome. Thanks for doing it!

Louis O

Hi Jerome,

Great raffle and you gave me some inspiration. A while ago I wanted to offer a giveaway and now I think its time for one.

I have something new and to kick it off I will follow Jerome’s guideline and raffle a set of Intro's and stands to go with them.

Will set it up once they are done and boxed up.

Thanks,
Louis
