Hi. I went to visit tektondesign again. I posted last month about a open baffle design he has been working on. I was very impressed on my last visit, and he has further refined the idea. I wondered last time when he would be putting up the product for sale, and it looks like he has.

This time I also took a friend who also enjoys loudspeakers. He used to install them in home theaters and also has heard many different speakers as well.

My impressions on my first visit made me smile, so I was very excited to once again get the chance the hear and see what improvements had been made.

Each box still has two drivers, but now they are installed at a 90 degree angle? If you want details I would as Eric directly to explain exactly why. I have a basic understanding, but I could not give theory behind it a just explanation.

Here are my impressions. The sound staging on these speakers are simply outstanding. Or as my friend put it.  They are simply the best sounding speakers he had ever heard. So he was obviously impressed. But the driver does have it's limitations, such as bass response.

It was kind of funny because my friend said, "Sorry Clark, but these speakers sound 100 percent better then your design.", My fostex 127e, design was based on a traditional vented box. He said that more then once! If you want to see my design for kicks here is a link.

As for me. I've heard other fostex 127e designs, and this by far sounded the best in my experience so far. So I'm guessing that even better drivers will yield even better resolution and detail. The bass clarity that this design seemed to produce was also better then other 127e designs. Oh yeah, and the lows were defintley lower then the other 127e based box designs I've heard.

I guess what I'm saying is that this design really seems to maximize the capabilities of the drivers being used.

One of the really curious things about this design is I found how even the sound was.  So off axis 90 degrees and even more, I was stilling getting amazing imaging. A slight loss in bass off axis, but wow.

I know there will be lots of speculations on how these sound, and how they work, and that is great, but really you have to hear it for your selves.

I also understand a review is in the works!!! That will be great to hear!!

Anyways I thought you might want an update!

Oops. double post.

Hi,

I see you did the web design for a bunch of local audio companies, including Tekton Design, Zu, Kimber and some others, nice work.  Especially on Zu's site, I dig that one.

Did your exposure to high performance audio "turn" you into an audiophile, or were you an audiophile who happens to do web design and got hooked up with these companies?

Welcome to AC!   :thumb:

Peace,

Lee

Hello. Wow I'm famous!

Yes I've worked on many Audio companies websites. Zu, Kimber, Tekton, Talon Audio, WBT, others over the years!

I actually was not an audiophile at all, but a designer / programmer, after working for kimber many years back I just got to know several people working in the industry. It gave me an opportunity to hear many, many innovative techologies, and hear many different speakers out on the market(Wilson, Aperion, Talon, Martin logans, the list goes on!

As for me. My fist pair was a set of $67 pioneers, which I thought were great sounding! Well, that was before I was introduced to the world of what real speakers can sound like.

So I am by trade a web designer, but have over the years become interested in speaker designing. I consider myself a newbie at loudspeakers, but really enjoy the projects I have completed.

My last project before Tekton was with Zu. Which by the way have some great speakers as well, a little more then my budjet will allow, but while working on Zu's website they let me borrow some speakers to listen to for a few weeks. That was fun!!!

So far, my favorites in my Budget range (Under $1000), are definatley Eric's designs. I've not heard any of his really expensive speakers yet!

Yeah, you could make a good living just designing websites for the audio companies here in Utah.  Per capita, we have to have more audio companies here than anywhere else in the US.

Dis you do Talon's old website, when Mike still owned it?  That was a nice site.

Lots of good advice and camaraderie here on AC, have fun!

Peace,

Lee
