I humbly request Julian of Sedona Sky Sound to list his top 10 CD/SACD list.  Also highly appreciated would be, with each disc, its most redeeming feature: the music, recording quality, or performance.  Many thanks!

Why?

And why don't you list yours in all fairness first?

Does he even have a list? Not everyone 'lists' the stuff they like.

Maybe he said he did say he had a list in a diff. thread though and I missed it, but then wouldn't that be soap opera crap for a private PM not an open thread?

I apologize for the incredible pain & suffering, the imbecilic nature of my post.  The fact that I did not conisder that members would be so put out when they were forced to click on my subject thread...the waste of digital storage space, the hard drives crashing, "oh the humanity"...Thank you for enlightening me with your joy & light this lovely morning.

If it looked like I was totally horrified by the thread -sorry. Your melodrama and sarcasm is totally reasonable in this case. hehe

Just seemed like a thing for a PM when it's a direct question to someONE.

I mean I did ask you to post your 'list' and you ignored me. And asked if Julian even had a list and you ignored that too, so even more reason IMO that you should just have PM'ed him.

No big deal though. I just like to shoot my mouth off now and then. I know you understand this desire. hehe

You, a dealer... seem to be having some sort of soap opera with this other dealer though. Keep it private or let it all out if you want it public I say. Just my 2 cents.

Y ...

Yes, I see what you mean, how it is more of a personal message, sorry.  I just thought with Julian's system apparently sounding so good, two studios using it for mastering, a member agreeing with Julian that it beats live, etc....

Anyway, I think maybe members are missing where I went out of my way to point out the respect I have for Julian, & how I must be missing something, you know, saying that it's probably me not him, but apparently I did not make it clear enough.

My main point was & is: how can two speakers so incredibly mismatched in quality (according to Julian, the X & 40) possibly make sound better than live when those same speakers are combined in a TrinP?  It seems impossible to me unless it is 'splained better, or as I wrote, I am missing something, which is just as likely.....

Hope all are having a great time tonight as am I listening to Cuban music on KPFA-FM.

Here's some tracks I play for anyone who'll listen:

1. Paul Hamner "Trains to Tauung".  This South African CD was never available in the US.  World's fattest, most believable piano sound.
2. Tchaikowsky Sym #2 Herrera/Orchesta symphonica de Mineria (OM records) My orchestral standard.  OP of course.
3. Cusco vol II Apurimac.  Haunting synthesized jungle sounds
4. Chieftans Tears of Stone--Danny Boy sung by (of all people) Diana Krall.  Her best work.
5. Queens of the Stone Age--Music for the Deaf.  Says it all.
6. Sinata Live at the Sands (1958).
7. Flower Drum Song(2002 cast)--Hundred Million Miracles.  Corny yes, realistic yes.
8. BB King (cut of some 1960's material)
9. Saint Saens sonata for piano and violin--copied at the Show, don't know the performers
10. Lara St John "Gypsy".  The Sarasate cut is 15 minutes of amazing fiddling and SOTA sound
11. "Sombrero de tres picos" de Falla, Dutoit/Montreal.  Monitored on B&W's, goes to show most engineers don't know what's on their tape.  Behind the solo soprano a LARGE TRUCK outside the hall starts up and pulls away slowly.
12. Fisher Pieces de clavecin.  Recorded in the ballroom of an English country house, the solo harpsichord is joined by a bird singing about 60ft away.  Enchanting.

Jim,

As you know listening to music for some will transend them to places less explored. I have had setups in the past that I thought sounded better then when I saw a performer live and some tracks actually sounded better then listening to them in a certain hall...live.   It's all a matter of opinon!!!!

I love the "Better then live" moniker though. Brian should use this at CES. That would realy piss off his competition. We should all go room to room and when they ask you "how did my speakers sound to you" say "they were good but at the VMPS room.....they were better then live"!.

That should really piss off the ones making speakers for 3-5 times the price and sounding like crap.

Just a thought.

Hello Larry,
Under Texas Trademark Law (which de-facto applies nationally in this case), I actually own the trademark for "Better Than Live" as it relates to audio (effective 9/29/03). In addition, www.BetterThanLive.Com is mine as well. Specifically, the "Better Than Live" moniker applies to a system composed of:

- VMPS RM/X
- Bi-amped Ampzilla 2000 monoblocs
- ScorpionWire Interconnects and Speaker Cables
- My proprietary set-up and installation service

That being said, I happily grant limited royalty-free use of the term to both Brian Cheney and James Bongiorno to use in the promotion of their products.

I agree that the term has significant marketability and should help bring in more reviewers to the VMPS/SST room at CES (as well as create a "hook" as you described). More power to them.

Ok.... I know for a fact that the words "better than live" left my mouth after my demo of the RM/X using a Steve Tyrell SACD.

So my question is.... Did you know your system was "better than live" before I said a thing :?:  :?:  :?:

Your ability to get the most out of the RM/X is really impressive, but I think knowing others would even consider using the term "better than live" to rank right up there...

Hello Jason,
Yep, already knew it but your confirmation was icing on the cake   . I had  been using "Better Than Live" as part of my marketing for a few weeks prior to your visit. Actually, I think the first person to say it was my wife when I was trying to tune the bass for what seemed live the 1000th time. Her exact comment was more along the lines of "That's it. Holy #$*@, that sounds better than live!!  :o ".

Then it sounds to me like your trademark is incomplete.  By all rights it really should be...

HOLY $#!%, THAT'S BETTER THAN LIVE!!!

Brian, can you give more details on the album you mentioned with the harpsachord and the bird? Sounds absolutely fascinating!
