FOR SALE: Passive Preamplifier
« on: 1 Nov 2008, 10:43 am »
Our most basic preamplifier is designed not to alter the signal passing through it. We do not use any active components inside it that can alter incoming music. This preamp is designed with two switchless inputs. A nice touch that eliminates a pair of contacts the signal would otherwise have to pass through.  All internal connections are made with 20ga cloth over neoprene tube amp wire- same as used in all our designs. Our passive preamp is a great example of having the necessities at a reasonable price without sacrificing quality.

Price: $145.00
Shipping: $15.00 to the lower 48

If you would prefer another color, that's no problem. Just let us know!

FYI: A phono preamp connected to this would sound really sweet! There is no better way to get a direct sound path to your amplifier, whether it's tube or solid state. Noise reduction without the use of filters or expensive active circuits is a benefit to any high end system.

Any chance you could post a pic here of the unit internals?

I was unable to make it to the office today, but will be there tomorrow to take a photo of the underside.

Any chance you could post a pic here of the unit internals?

Our passive preamplifier will be on sale for $99.00 plus shipping until the end of November. We made this preamp etremely simple for purists who want a direct pipeline to your amplifier. The frequency response is DC to at least 50khz since there are no components to rechannel or absorb any part of the spectrum.

Some ideal uses:

1. When the source is a reel to reel or cassette tape
2. With a phono preamp

Both sources benefit from a control stage tthat has a zero noise figure. Gain stages can introduce noise. Passive preamps do not have any gain stages in them- so what you hear is exactly what the source is delivering.

Or to attenuate the louder amp of a biamped configuration?

Yes, of course it can do that very well. I can make a home theater version with as many channels as you'd like for precise control of all your channels. All you'd have to do is install the attenuator between the main-in and pre-out of each channel you want to control. Most receivers can do this through a menu- but using an analog control is faster and more 'hands on'.
