Some compare the sonic (and magnetic) differences between Alnico Magnets (Aluminum-Nickel-Cobalt) and Ferrite Magnets (Strontium Ferrite), akin to the sonic differences found in tube amps compared to solid state amps: “…(a) solid state amp gives it all its got then clips hard, while a tube amp compresses nice and smooth.”
No matter the physics, Alnicos are the best sounding drivers I’ve ever heard. That’s why they’re now standard equipment in all Omega upper-end speakers.

The Super 8 Alnico XRS is a completely-new speaker for Omega.
Super 8 Alnico XRSs incorporate a new Aperiodic vent. A ‘lossy,’ down-firing vent, helping the speakers perform at a level sonically larger than their physical size.
Aperiodic vents delivers improved musical purity, because the drivers are transient perfect. Something not achieved by traditional vented enclosures.
Like all Omega XRS-style speakers, Super 8 Alnico XRSs interact with your room to extend bass output. And built-in brass cones tilt the front of the speaker slightly for optimal soundstaging. And like other XRS models, this speaker is ‘room friendly,’ working well in a variety of room placements -- even close to your corners and back walls.
This model shares design characteristics found in Omega’s smaller XRS speakers, including:
- Extended bass response
- Short cabinet heights, which virtually eliminates cabinet flex and resonance problems, translating into pure, uncluttered mids and highs
- Wide front baffles & built-in tilt, opening and broadening the soundstage
- All XRS’s are floorstanders, so you don’t need special speaker stands, making Super 8 XRSs just a wee bit more budget friendly.
