planet10 designed a BVR horn called "Maiko" for the Feastrex D5nf full range drivers

Scott Lindgren (aka scottmoose) did the basic design work, i prompted for some specific revisions, did the drawings and designed the details (cabinet bracing etc)

We have a symbiotic relationship and have dozens of designs under our belt -- many of them on the sites listed in my sig.

I'd like to hear the pine ones. :^) These things were a labor of love to develop.

I like pine. Much under-rated material & can be great (when used correctly). I keep eyeballing the laminated pine boards down the local DIY shop, and thinking a cabinet would cost about the same with that as with BB ply. And BLHs love solid woods.

Nearly every horn I've heard suffered from colorations, the exception was a solid wood retangular horn with a 1 inch compression driver in a simple two-way speaker.

Of course. As does everything else, to one extent or another. It all about which compromises you're willing to accept in order to gain something else (whatever that might happen to be). That's where choice comes in.

Progress has been slow but I now have a very fine 2-way system functioning in my living room. Do the horns look familiar?

B&C DCX 50. But I'm not using the tweeters so I could have used the DCM 50 instead. Are you thinking about trying it?

I've got 9 thumbs and a pointer and it was easy for me.

I would love to but I think the price is JUST out of reach for my next project.  Do you mind saying what you have all in?  The horns are somewhere like $2200 right?  Thats about the budget for my WHOLE speaker project.  This time around that is.

I think you can get a pair of DCM 50 drivers for about $900. I paid a metal fabricator $100 to make the pair of brackets but I'm sure you could create something serviceable from wood for almost nothing.

I already had the L-200 which it turns out has the JBL LE 15B woofer, which Bill says is as good as you can buy. That was a happy bit of news. These speakers can be found for $1000/pair or less maybe.

Add in some shipping charges for horns and drivers and you are probably looking at $4500. Retail on such speakers is at least 10 times as much.

The only caveat that comes to mind is listening distance. I think 12 feet is a good minimum. Maybe less would work if your horns were closer together than mine are (10 feet between drivers).
