Sistrum Stands from Star Sound. IMHO only aa, these are top of the line isolation devices and I use the 004 stands for my 4 Odyssey Lorelei's. Because of cost restraints and the fact I just don't have the room in my rack, I only use Audiopoint cones from Star Sound under all my components. But is things were different, the Sistrum Stands would be under each component also, like Double Ugly had under his Butler Monad amps. DU steered me to these stands and my Lorelei's definitely benefited from their use.

Nice, thanks.. I'm going to look in the tweak section as well.  I was looking for something where I can isolate my monitors on the a stand but I will research and see

Herbie's Fat Dots do a good job of isolation for speakers, also known as decoupling.  Herbie's component isolation footers are here.

Anything with spikes couples the component to whatever base it's on.  The result depends on the material coupled to.  Hard maple works as a sound board with usually pleasing sound.  Heavy stone damps the effect.  Tell us what base you want to be isolated from.

There are many, many devices for both decoupling and coupling.  Some like roller bearings only (or mainly) decouple in the horizontal direction.  As with most items, your budget is your guide.

I've had good luck with these- Sorbothane ovals from Mcmaster-Carr.com

"Selector Pack— Includes five plain-back 1 1/2" x 3" x   5/32" thick oval pieces, one of each durometer (30 OO, 40 OO, 50 OO, 60 OO, and 70 OO).  8514K2  Per Pkg. $11.45"


Get 2 of the packs, one per speaker and use all 5 ovals per side. Maybe this will help to disperse resonances, by using all different durometers?

No guarantee they won't mar anything, but I've read that you can put plastic wrap over them so they don't touch the speaker.

If you hate 'em , you're out $25, not too bad in this hobby.

From the DIY frugal side of the tracks, I would recommend using the 3/8” thick stress pad material found at Lowes…inexpensive and very effective.  If you want to take it up a notch, use sad balls cut in half and placed on the corners of the stand’s top plate.  Again, these are highly effective.

If you are interested, call the 800# and tell them you just want the unhappy balls #P6-1000-03.  They are made of Norsorex and oddly come in quantities of 15 and you pay $35.  To cut them in half just cut along the mold line with a razor blade.  Four halves can support a 100# subwoofer without losing shape.

I have to second the Herbie Audio Labs suggestion, they make exceptional products and rather inexpensive at that. Currently, I'm using the grungebuster dots under my shelf/frame.  In the future I plan on testing some of Steve's other products.

I third this, relatively inexpensive, effective, money back, and wide weight range/no guesswork formulas.  No brainer given the cost of some of the tweaks out there

You may also want to try some of the myrtle blocks advertised on audiogon. They are worth playing with at the price....you may be surprised.

I also have had good success with the generic versions of the mapleshade isoblocks. Available for peanuts on the web.

A while ago, I came across a site that advertise some type of black dots, large, small, etc and they were really cheap.  I really can't find them now but if someone knows about this place please let me know.  It's not Herbies either.  Good product but way expensive for my taste..

4th for Herbies, I have used the grungemat, and tube dampers, and isolation feet with much success.

I also use Herbie's Big Fat Black Dots under the marble platform that mass loads my sub. I use Herbie's smaller feet for my smaller gear like the Trends UD 10.1 USB transport and it's Channel Island VDC-SB power supply, AV123 ERT tweeters, and Acoustic Research RR-77. I use Herbie's tube rings on my Butler amps also. But for speaker & main component isolation, Sistrum Stands have worked far better than coupling devices for me. DIY is by far the cheapest way to go tho.

A quick word about isolation pads in general, if you value your rack's finish, use something under these things to protect the finsh. I tried them 1/2 circle thingies, i can't remember the make of the $20/4 but I do remember the mess they made on my Sanus rack,,, it's still there. Care needs to be taken on any of the these isolation pads IMHO until you can be sure that they won't leave their imprint.
