Kismet Speakers
« on: 29 Oct 2008, 08:17 pm »
From another thread, do I understand correctly that these are just the Lorleis with a redesigned crossover and bases, or are there other differences?

From the RMAF show photos, I didn't realize that the giant bases were actually a part of the speaker.  I thought they were just set up on large wooden blocks.  Is there a smaller base available?

Klaus is comin up to my house today with a pair. I think they're more Kismet than Lorlei. I didn't want the large wood base. I'll be able to say more tomorrow after I talk with Klaus.

It'll be nice when Klaus's new website has all that good specification info listed for all his new products. For now, my guess is they're a completely new speaker with totally different drivers and crossovers than the Lorelei's. Just guessing mind you. :dunno: Feel free to post any info you get. :o :thumb:

Next is the Kismet loudspeaker.  In my opinion, the best product that I have by far are the Lorelei's.  I don't think that even a small percentage of you really realise as to how great of a design this is. Then again,  as a SL design it is 9 k plus in Europe,  so it better be good.  Anyway, with the Kismet speakers we are also going bananas with internal upgrades and a wooden outrigger kind of cabinet externally.  Cost will be $ 3,200,  just a minimal increase.

By the way my wife thought the Kismet Speakers at RMAF were absoutely beautiful.

Well I for 1 realize how good the Lorelei design is, that's why I have 2 pair of them. But from looking at the pictures of the Kismet speaker, the driver looked bigger to me than the 7" 8545 Scan Speak carbon fiber driver of the Lorelei's. What do you think Ken? Thanks.

I ordered a pair of Kismets when I heard them this year at RMAF. By far the best value at RMAF IMO. I'd heard the Loreleis at RMAF the previous two years and thought they were excellent speakers. But these Kismets are on another level. I don't know what Klaus did, but it worked for me and I bought a pair. (Haven't arrived yet.) As far as I know, the only difference is the crossover and the large bases.

Robin:

RMAF was my first time seeing or hearing any of Klaus's speakers.  From all of the pictures of the Lorelei's that I have seen the Kismets appear to be the same speaker with the addition of the bases.  My wife and I both thought the room sounded very good, one of the best sounding rooms we visited.  It would take someone like yourself to be able to distinguish the difference in sound versus the Loreleis.

Enjoy the music!

Klaus and  Irena delivered my speakers last night. I'm breaking them in now. The only difference between the two is that the Kismet has a reworked xover and the larger base. I didn't want the base or the Kismet etching on the front baffle. Other than that they are all Kismet. The overall size of the cabinet(which is absolutely beautiful Santos rosewood) and the drivers are the same for both speakers. The drivers are also the same size and manufacturer.

Congratulations on you new speakers!  I think the Kismets at RMAF were in Santos Rosewood and I stated previously, the pair at RMAF were beautiful.

Please tell us how they sound as they break-in.

Well that's actually very good news for Lorelei owners who might want to upgrade their loudspeakers with this tweeked out crossover version. Thanks for the info. :thumb:

Yea, and they sound good too. I won't say anything now about their sound. They need a few weeks of break in. Klaus was right about not needing a sub. The bass is deep but for now it is quite loose and boomy. Nothing a few hundred hours won't cure.

The quality of the cabinets is 2nd to none. Evert bit as good as any Avalons.
