Help with a Pioneer DVD Player-picture too dark
« on: 20 Sep 2008, 02:47 am »
Hi folks my pioneer  DV-400V upscaling player's picture is just way too dark. Cant even make out some background. Its definately the player as ive swapped out my ancient toshiba 3900 with is standard rez and it is much brighter.  It may just be a crappy player or maybe the factory settings are off. If so can anyone give me some gidence on where to adjust the settings. There are the basic options on this player

Video Adjust Menu

Sharpness (Soft, Standard, Fine)
Brightness (-20 to +20)
Contrast (-16 to +16)
Gamma (Off, Low, Medium, High)
Hue (Green 9 to Red 9)
Chroma Level (-9 to +9)

The manual is here  http://www.manualnguide.com/manual-get/4791/

Much obliged in advanced.

Video folks, im still playing with the settings and cant seem to get the pic any "lighter" .  Here are my current settings, again any help with what to max out or tweak would be appreciated, particularly the gamma:

sharpness: fine
Brightness: +6
Contrast+ 6
Gamma: off
Hue: -0
Chroma: +2

This makes me think it may be a cable issue - a "luminance" type of problem. Otherwise sounds like its in the player.

Any chance you'd be able to swap your Pioneer with a same model Pioneer for a weekend.
