K&Q Sound Genesis is proud to introduce 2 new products at CES 2009, Jan 8-12, the Model 1 High Efficiency Planar speaker, an open baffle in solid cherry wood, and the Model 2 direct heated triode stereo amplifier. We design, manufacture and market fine loudspeakers and amplifiers.
The Model 1 is a high efficiency, wide dynamics, 3-way dipole loudspeaker. The baffle is made from multiple layers of solid cherry wood with a total thickness of 3-inch. This is not MDF. The speaker's exposed wood surfaces are finely sanded, polished, oil finished as high end wood furniture. The classy look, yet modern, aim for a better fit with room decoration.
The 12-inch Eighteen Sound 12nda520 is the mid driver. It is a state of the art driver with active control impedance, and we feel its sonic performance is very close to the equivalent size French Supravox field coil driver. There are no crossover points within the critical mid range to allow the coherence of the mid driver to shine. Two 15-inch woofers handle the lowest registers while the treble is covered by a smooth 1-inch compression tweeter. Crossover is a bi- amplified passive design. Passive components are oil caps, Solen capacitors bypassed with film caps, air core inductors, Mundorf resistors, silver over OFC wiring, etc. Each mono crossover module is housed in its own stainless steel enclosure over a wood base.
The Model 2 direct heated triode (DHT) stereo amplifier produces ~7 single ended watts per channel. It has the Western Electric 300B triode driving an another 300B output tube. The use of power triodes in the driver and output stages were first proposed by Sakuma-san of Japan. The circuit implements transformer coupling, a topology found in vintage Western Electric amplifiers (and even in early days solid state amps). Input transformer and the output transformer are Electra-Pint. The PSSS OPT has silver over copper secondary wiring. Interstage transformer is from Lundahl. You can roll all the 300B tube flavors, including the higher current 300BXLS and 320BXLS.
Model 1: 19" W, 54" H, ~210Lbs with crossovers (roughly the same size as an MG12)
Model 2: 23.5" W, 26" D, ~120lbs
The Model 1 Planar speaker and the Model 2 DHT amplifier will be demoed officially at CES 2009, Venetian Hotel suite 31-215.
