I want to use FLAC for my music server, but need apple lossless for ipod.  I presume dbpoweramp could be used to rip to wav, and then batch copy/convert to flac and or apple lossless? Did someone say you could rip/convert directly to flac and then convert to apple lossless if desired?

Now, I actually ripped a bunch of cd's using EAC and (I thought) converted at the same time to FLAC. In my computer's file directory it thinks these are Yahoo Music Jukebox files. WTF? Is this just because it is too stupid to recognize them for what they are, or is it me that's too stupid?  Smart money might be on me ;)

What will you be using your iPod for?
In other words...why do you think you need lossless files on your iPod?

DBpower amp should be able to create both FLAC and ALC files from the same rip.

On the other hand...if your iPod is a Video or older (not touch, and not classic) you can load Rockbox and use FLAC files.

As for the Yahoo Music Jukebox issue - I would think you have Yahoo Music Jukebox as the default player for FLAC files.

I think I became the last person in the free world to get an iPod. My only basis for lossless is that I would presume that one could hear the difference if playing through good IEM's.  You think not?

It is in fact a Classic, so no FLAC files for that.

No idea about the file format. I guess i coudl download db and see if it recognizes the files. Hate to have to rip them all again.  Although, can it pick up the album art if it is not ripping but just converting?

Hey Tim! dbpoweramp can convert flac to mp4 (Apple Lossless). It has a batch converter than can select tracks from multiple directories, so you can program the entire library conversion in one batch down to the track level. It does not go get art during the conversion, but most players can see your art.jpg files if they are in the directory along with the tracks. Just copy and past art from your flac directory. Art is not stored in the song files.  I don't know where iPod likes to find its art files. Maybe iTunes can help with that.

It will only convert one format at a time, and won't compress a ripped wav to flac and mp4 at the same time. So you would rip and compress to flac, then convert the flac to mp4 with one of the 2 converters, depending on how many directories need convertin'.

I've found J.River Media Jukebox to work quite well and you can use it to take care of the artwork as well.

Shat lav!  Vonts es?

It took me a few reads to realize what you were saying.  Unfortunately that's about the extent of my Armenian skills (aside from several phrases from the church liturgy).

Its pretty hard writing Armenian using English letters.  Just wanted to say what's up to a fellow Armenian.

Sorry for the distraction...

O ... K

Haven't had one of those detours from reality since I stopped dropping acid

If I was going to have to learn Armenian to make it work I was ready to kick the can ;)

I have made db and all its incarnations work fine on my notebook ...must be something with what/how it installed on the desktop.  Try again when I get back in town.

Thanks guys.
