PLC-1 and 240v
« on: 10 Sep 2008, 12:36 am »
Hi Dusty,

Along with the power supply for the 170i I'm interested in the PLC-1. I live in Australia (240v) so would it be beneficial for me to buy VAC 1 to run the PLC-1? I assume the standard wall wart is 110v the same as with my VDA-2 (which I have a VAC1 for)

Thanks, George

Sorry for the barrage of questions.

I was wondering if the outputs of the PLC-1 can be  configured to balanced using the VRX-1 as with the outputs on the VDA-2?

Hi naggots,

I'm sure Dusty will answer your questions in depth but as a PLC-1 owner I thought I'd jump in. The only function of the power supply on the PLC-1 is to operate the volume, power the LED's, switch inputs, and supply an auxiliary 12v output (a feature I actually use). Otherwise, the PLC-1 is completely passive. So an upgraded power supply is a waste of money since it has zero effect on the signal. The voltage, of course, is a different issue.

BTW, in my experience (and I've owned a number of very fine preamps) the PLC-1 is the cleanest link between sources and amplifier I've ever had in my system.

CSI is correct as far as the sonic improvement of the VAC-1 with PLC-1.
However, VAC-1 is required to use PLC-1 with 240V input (the standard supply is available in 120V only).
