New top-loading CD transport (Vanguard)

I'm always surprised and glad to see purpose-built CD transports.  This one seems pretty nice with top-loading, floating transport mechanism and coax/AES/toslink outputs.  I'm sure the ambitious can throw in the clock-of-choice with clock PS in there for even better performance.

I was looking at this one too.  Anyone here heard what it can do?  Doesn't Pacific valve have a pretty good rep?  Anyone with technical savvy can look inside and tell us what you think?

Very Interesting Jon. The next thing I will be looking for in my system is probably a dedicated transport, so this looks like a very good buy.

p.s. Does anyone have any other dedicated CD transport recommendations?

Hmmm it looks like a re branded DIY kit based on the Phillips CDM-12 mech to me from hifidiy.net, it's supposed to be a decent little player though: See here> http://us.hifidiy.net/index.asp

Looks like the kit doesn't include the drive mechanism.  I'm guessing it will be pretty difficult to source single unit quantities of this drive.  I've tried in the past and come up empty every time.

I didn't see where the same place sells the drives, but it's a pretty cluttered page for my screen reader and would be easy to miss, so if anybody has information to the contrary I'd appreciate knowing about it.

It looks to me like the case is the same between the kit and transport, but the circuit boards, layout, and lack of analogue output stage (on the transport), kind of transformer, and basically everything else is different inside..

Hey!

Yup, the same thing I think. Getting the drive could be a problem I think

BTW... this is where I got my Mini DAC kit :D

Take care,

Seems like a sweet deal. aa
Looks like they have 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.....minus 8% "transaction processing fee" :nono:
Tempting indeed.
Any one thinking of taking it for a test drive?
