Retail Audio & Video Start Up Ideas!!!

Hello AudioCircle,

I hope that this finds everyone in the best of health and spirits and that all is well with you and yours!!!

It has been awhile since I posted anything in or on the AudioCircle. Just too many irons in the fire and the worst thing in my life. Dealing with the failing health of my father, who has since passed.

The title of this topic is, "Retail Audio & Video Start Up Ideas".  What I am seeking is advice in relation to this topic. From the smallest to the biggest in any shape or form.

I am entertaining the idea of the purchase of the real estate or the idea of leasing the location. I prefer to purchase, but, on a limited budget......this may
not be possible??? Any ideas or solutions???

I would like suggestions on what product brands one would or should repre-
sent??? I am partial to the class d or switching amplifiers as well as a preference
for SET amplifiers, but that is neither here nor there.
As long as the music sounds.... well..... like music.....that is all that matters
in short.......the music matters and that is the most important matter of all.

I would like to install a trapagon for listening or demonstration purposes. Any ideas why this would work or not work???
I do intend to have room acoustics in place.

I would also like to offer audiophile LP's, Cd's, DVDs, SACD's as well as other means of recordings if at all possible!!! Possible consignments of the above or outright purchase of recordings??? Any ideas or suggestions???
Now this is just my opinion, but at certain price levels Cd's are fine but as the budget expands.......it is my opinion and only my opinion that the old format of the LP tends to take over........so I would like opinions about this???
Good or bad idea to stock these items???
How does one grade recordings??? Is there a universal system in place that one can rely on??? I believe there is, but I am at a lost to the names of these items??? Anyone out there feel free!!!

   As always, all the best.

Sincerely,

Ralph Lomax

Assuming you have connections in China and your intent is to open up shop in America, why not bring the best stuff from China over here?  Maybe some business minded entrepreneur from there would be willing to help finance your operation - which ideally should include warranty related issues...

Do you know anything about... http://www.audio-gd.com/enweb/en-amp.htm

Keep you day job.
Setup website.
Attend the audio-video shows.
Make contacts there.
Your knowledge, customer service,  attitude and variety of interesting, quality, reliable products will play a huge role in your bussines being either successful or old news.
Start small - operating from your house is fine and has its own advantages.
It is not the easiest bread, that is for sure.
The timing might not be in your favor.

Wish you luck

Dont make a hobby your job or you may loose both in the end,if you really are set on going into audio business make sure anything you get into begins with WWW. Retail is for those who are still hanging in there........this is not the time to open a new store.

What city will your new business venture be in?
Changsha?

Will you still be selling Shuguang electronics?

Windchaser is right, get the best boutique and non EU or NA represented Chinese offerings and represent them here with the ability to service them. The starup cost would be in the product which has value instead of wasting on shop, insurance, employees and taxes. It would require legwork as most here cant sift through the vast offerings over here and the peace of mind of dealing with a NA rep instead of some guy or scammer over there. There is huge potential.

Hello AudioCircle,

It was suggested that I post this reply to the AudioCircle group as a whole!!!

   Hello Wayne!!!

First things first!!!  Let me say to you!!!  Congratulations on being a craftsman with your products. I salute you!!!

Second!!!  Thanking you very much for your post.

In short, I am thinking of opening a "retail audio & video" location in the City of Dayton, Ohio.

I, on paper, am a North American Distributor for Shuguang Audio & Tube and Arena Audio.

It was unfortunate with the health issues of my father that I could not proceed or do justice to these "entry level" products.

Shuguang does have "sleepers" in the arsenal, a CD Player and a pair of mono block amplifiers and pre-amp as well as a intergrated amplifier.

Aren of Arena Audio is doing his thing with SET amplifers, which is basically, a cult like status within mainland China. He is now into designing loudspeakers and other related audio products.

Then there is "Mr. Wong" with his amplifiers and a battery operated pre-amplifier.
He has been fiddling with his pre-amplifier for at least four years, just to get it to sound right.
His amps are boat anchors, jokingly, they weigh close to two hundred pounds but at the price range, many other amplifiers would be hard put to sound as good.

  As always, all the best.

Sincerely,

Ralph Lomax
