I drove down to Princeton Record Exchange yesterday. I have a lot of time on my hands these days and I always enjoy a visit there. I made a bargain with myself not to go crazy buying everything that looked interesting. I managed to get out of there after a few hours for around $13.
I found a decent but as it turns out somewhat crackly copy of the Stones "Some Girls." I haven't heard it in years but Faraway Eyes and Beast of Burden took me right back to the day.
I also found a mint copy of Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters." I was not a big fusion or funk fan but this is just a great, tight, and after doing some research, a very influential album. I've listened to it about three times and I can tell already that it will get played a lot, highly recommended.
Lastly I picked up a pristine two record Verve chronological collection of Billie Holiday's Verve studio recordings. These recordings were from 1955-6 with sideman like Ben Webster, Benny Carter, Wynton Kelly and many others. This is a stunning recording of Tin Pan Alley tunes by some of the greatest jazz artists of the time.
