The Mensa Audition pack will live again!.

It wll go out today to the next person on the list.

I am making one change. I do ask that the MENSA be used with signal coming into and out of it for at least 100 hours before sitting down for any serious audition. JayS posted how he had his Mensa put away for awhile and it was almost unlistenable until it had been broken in again.

This can cause some problems and I understand this. If you do not wish to comply with this request, we will move on to the next person.

The experiment to improve the DI/O's digital board met with failure. There will alwasy be loss of sync when using it with a DVD player. The Mensa modded DI/O should only be used with dedicated CD transports at 44.1 KHZ in ext. sync mode.

I have a Carver Pro ZR1600 in many pieces on my bench right now. I am in the process of developing mods for it that will go a bit beyond the current level of mods being done. I will keep everyone updated on the progress.

I have just ordered in a Panasonic XR-45 and I will be working on some mods for it to improve the analog inputs and hopefully the power cord.

I have completed all the pricing for the Hagerman Cornet phono preamp and I should be adding complete, assembled units to my website soon for ordering.

Hey, this one sounds pretty cool!  That unit has a five channel amp.  It would be nice to see decent speaker connectors, better caps, and any of the "Bolder Magic" you have become known for.  Hopefully, you can work a little Mojo on this unit.  The price is right, it is an integrated (with remote!) and some people have said some very positive things about the Panny unit.  It would be cool if someone could use four channels to bi-amp two way speakers at 200 wpc in a two channel setup.

Please keep us posted!

Wayne:
Are you going to look at what might be done to improve the PS?

Is there a Schematic to the unit? That I really doubt ,but I thought I'd ask anyways!

I sent you back a Digital Cable along with CD's I hope you recieved them. I sent an instramental CD that was damaged, but I did not know till I tried it recently

Stan Ridgway should have come out ok though. That was a compilation of 9 of his CD's.

Will want to get a Coronet if I happen to sell the MENSA DAC I have. If I like the sound of the Digital play of the Panny and there are no problems of synergy with my speakers.

Will be intresting to read your opinion of this unit and what synergy issues you might experience with it involving speakers and the DACs.

Good luck!

ABEX,

CD's and cable were received. I haven't had any free time to listen to all of them yet.

The Service Manual is available from Panasonic for around $10.00

I have one of those on order as well :D

I wouldn't say the Mensa Plus is unlistenable out of the box... but it sure isn't up to its full potential.  There is a bit of edginess to vocals (which is something that I am generally sensitive to) that is greatly diminished after 4 days.  Maybe it is even better after being plugged in for longer.  What I can say is that I really enjoyed listening to my Mensa when it was plugged in 24 x 7 x months!
