D-200 amp repair
« on: 24 Jul 2008, 05:46 pm »

I bought a pair of the D-200's from Dusty in Oct. of 2005. About the middle of June 2008 one of the amps died. Sent it to Dusty on 6/24/08. Got it back today and it's back up and running. Everything sounds very good!! The warranty ran out on the amp on 10/6/2006. I knew that and I was fully prepared to pay whatever the cost to get it repaired. Dusty would hear none of that. Repairs didn't cost me a dime. Now that is real customer service!!!  Thank you Dusty. :thumb:

                                           Cheers

I've posted this before but I think it bears repeating. Shortly after the VDA.2 DAC came to market Dusty discovered a way to improve it. This was not a problem fix but a genuine upgrade to an already very good product. Rather than just roll the change into ongoing production or announce a "Mark II" version, Dusty invited everyone to return their VDA.2 for a free upgrade. No hassle and no cost beyond one way shipping. This is the kind of "customer service" attitude that makes Channel Islands Audio an unusually supportive company to deal with.

Yes, I would second Dusty's post-warranty support! One of my D*200 monos broke down shortly after its first year but Dusty repaired it FOC. For overseas customers, the shipping would be cheaper if you dismantle the internal board and simply send the board instead of the whole amplifier. There aren't many parts in the D*200 anyway.

Interesting, was this something that was recommended by Dusty in order to save shipping cost?

Most digital amps using ICE or Hypex modules do not have too many components to speak off.  Therefore, especially if you live overseas, it would make more $$$ sense to just send that component that is suspect instead of spending $$$$$$ in shipping what is not wrong.  Shipping prices have become murderous especially when sending things overseas.  Small boxes or small packs travel by air, are more affordable and less prone to damage.
