my new OB
« on: 17 Jul 2008, 09:25 pm »
Here is my new OB using Boston Acoustics A-120 speakers.  I cut open the back, put in a 10" (B.A. use a passive woofer originally) for low end.  Using original crossovers from B.A with an addition of a 9mh choke wired it going from main 6.5" woofer of B.A to the 10".

Impressive work.

I would stuff some stuffing materials along the back side of the panel as well as the in the box, as much as possible without touching the drivers or blocking the airways immediately behind the drivers.

Regards,
Bill

Nice work xecluded!!!!

When Alexander came upon the huge entanglement of the Gordian Knot he was told that the man who could untie it would rule the world.

Alexander took out his sword and cut the knot in two... and it seems you have done something similar.

Warmest Regards ~ Richard

You are all much too kind -- thanks . I will keep you update with the next similar project.  Thinking about vintage alnico foster fe103 + some 12" that would match the efficiency of the foster and can produce decent low end.

Looking at the existing layout, the 12" woofer is too far off the floor and probably is not a good idea for me to use these cabinets for OB.  What do you think.  (I just borrowed the picture off ebay - these speakers are not mine though mine are essential the same.)

xecluded, imo what you did to the Boston's was a fun way to get in the game, but I agree with the woofer being too high on these next one's. At some point you may be better off selling those as is and building a dedicated baffle for other drivers, now that it's known you have a saw  . Those 103A's are pretty nice and would work with Martins Alpha15 OB design, among other ideas.

That's what I am thinking about doing too Don.   I guess I would quit messing around with my new saw for a while... :green:
