Using amplifier stands with stratos
« on: 15 Nov 2003, 06:00 am »
Has anyone had successful results using amplifier stands with stratos amps?  I'm about to purchase some extreme monos and am wondering if this would help with the performance or if all I need is to put it on 3/4" wood.  Also, what are the physical dimensions of each monoblock?  any comments wuold be much appreciated.  thanks.

On a side topic, has anyone paired the stratos with the IRD purist preamp??

I put my extremes on VerraStar granite stands with good results.  Great vibration isolation and good looks.  The Odyssey Stratos amps are all the same size, 19 x 18 x 7.  I knew those measurments before I ordered, but was still surprised at how big they turned out to be.

thanks for the reply randy.  I just got a great deal on some steel-welded amp stands off of audiogon that are large enough to fit the monoblocks.

Hopefully this will be better than putting them on carpet.

Those look like good stands and a great deal.  Yes, way better than carpet.  Good luck and good night.
P.S. You'll love the amps.

I have a DIY platform and some isolation materials below my monos (inner tube, concrete, roller bearings) and really like the effect of the combined setup. The platform alone was clearly inferior to floating the amps in air and roller bearings. It's not a huge difference, but if you want the most out of the support structure under your amps, you'll have to go beyond a simple rigid platform.

I'm sure if you start with a good platform, these additional tweaks will work even better.

DIY tip:

Check with local kitchen cabinet shops for leftovers (including from sink cut outs) for granite or solid synthetic stock.

If that doesn't work "trade some spousal credits", your shelves for her new countertop.  They'll even match, how romantic and coordinated can you get?
