We are going over after the holiday to see some stuff. Can anybody recommend stores in the Northern bay area, around Oakland and SF that are open for auditions?
Thanks  Z

Two of the stores I have been to are:

Music Lovers Audio with locations in Berkeley and SF.  I bought my Rogue Audio Perseus at the Berkeley location.  Their website is musicloversaudio dot com.  I got great service there.

Audio Vision SF in SF.  I was checking out their JL Audio subwoofers.  Their website is audiovisionsf dot com.

You can check out their websites for all of the brands that they carry.

By the way, not sure you saw this list on this forum.  Not sure if all of these stores are still open though.

Music Lovers is a great place to go. I've never been to the Berkeley location, but the SF one is great. From what I hear, the Berkeley store is moving to a new location so it might not be the best place to go audition stuff. They're the local dealers for Wilson, Revel, Sonus Faber, VTL, SME, amongst other high end brands. Their set-ups at the SF store for Wilsons and the new Revel Salons are really quite impressive. Audio Vision isn't a place I particularly like going to. They expect you to buy something in there and can get testy if they think you're taking too much time. Their store is also overflowing with gear and it can be a pain to audition stuff there. If you're into analog, it would behoove you to make a trip down to The Analog Room in San Jose. It's a fun, club house-like atmosphere and they have excellent set-ups with very nice stuff to listen to. They're very big into AirTight electronics there, which is nice because there aren't many dealers around.

just to provide another perspective on AudioVision in SF. Last year, I visited AV for the first time with a friend who was looking for a new system. my friend had a limited budget (dali ikon range) for an integrated and speakers. We let the AV guy know that as well as the fact that this was his first time out looking ...still he was very amenable in showing my friend appropriate components and pulling speakers into a room to audition. Wandering around later they even let us listen to the Thiels and Quads they had set up.  Yes the showroom does have 20lbs packed into a 5lbs sack.  Pretty nice place/staff to me.
