Replacement of pots on FF3 SRE
« on: 28 Jun 2008, 12:31 am »
Hey all,

Newish member, but not new to audio.

I have the FF3 SRE with outboard bass crossover and just upgraded to the Neo mid panels to replace my stock BG ribbon. The Neo is 3 db more efficient so I went to adjust tweeter pot and I dont think it works anymore so how hard if even possible is it to replace volume pots? I have access through woofer holes or the area where original dual mids were beofre the outboard 53' ribbon was added so any ideas would be great............am I screwed? Its not that they need a huge boost but ofcourse working pots would be ideal...........cheers

Hi Chad,

Pots are not the most fun thing to replace, but they can be replaced and it takes a little "prying" (off of the old pot) "clipping" the leads, "soldering" the leads onto the new pot, and "hot glueing" the new pot back in place.

Brian, is currently on Summer Holiday till July 4th.  Call him after that to order the parts.

On a speaker that old, and if the pot was "burnt" by a voltage spike from the amp, you might want to consider replacing both pots.

Gently turn the other all the way back and forth "slowly" to see if it has tight or loose spots.  If so, it should be replaced. Or if it has sonic "drop outs" as you turn it, time to switch also (unless a few back and forths cleans the windings, then your good)

Chad:
I assume you have received the new mids. Bummer on the pot failing. Were the new panels hard to install? Any changes to the crossover? Brian said I would have to make some changes to my FF-1's crossover if I upgraded to the new mid array. Let me know how you like them when you can.
