Any Cut Copy fans? Looking for similiar artists
« on: 16 Jun 2008, 06:22 pm »
Reminds me of 80's new wave and highly addictive.  Any fans out there with other artist recommendations or am I missing any Cut Copy CDs?

I currently own and recommend:
Cut Copy - Bright Like Neon Love
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
Cut Copy - Fabriclive.29 (compilation)
Cut Copy - Live BBC 1 (compilation only online that I can find so far)

To sample Cut Copy try http://www.seeqpod.com

You probably already know about them but Fischerspooner is in the same vein, there is another group called Adult, most of their albums aren't that great, but their first, Resuscitation is quite good.

Also the Playgroup DJ Kicks is a great mix of synth-y tracks but I wouldn't really recommend his own albums.

Ladytron is another great artist to check out if you haven't yet, and of course stuff like Fad Gadget, Gary Numan and early Human League (pre-Dare) if you want to hear the O.G. stuff.

Nice - thanks, Hicks.

Some new names on your recommendations and I do have Fischerspooner in my collection.  Fun stuff too...  I heard a funny side-story/rumor about the guy when he was asked to play a live gig.  He shows up with a tape recorder or something and just stands on stage playing his tracks over the mic.

Playgroup sounds promising as I like a few of the DJ-Kicks series - like Erlend Oye's is way fun.

I definitely like O.G. stuff and have a healthy collection.  Zongamin is now on my list, thanks again!

Oh hey, you might know.  Any similar artists to the 80's band Propaganda?  Both A Secret Wish and Wishful Thinking are a blast.

Ha, yeah I've got a Coachella DVD with a Fischerspooner track on it and he spends most of the time berating the crowd for not screaming loud enough, but at least his Las Vegas-style dancing girls were pretty hot.    :thumb:

Hmm, don't know about Propaganda, I am vaguely familiar with the punk band Propagandhi, but I am sure that's not what you are talking about.   :icon_lol:

Cut Copy is new to me, I listened to the samples and found:

the song "haunted" sounds similar to the church
"zip zap" sounds similar to a new chemical brothers track
"future" sounds like kraftwerk
They remind me a bit of PIL too

CC's vocals sound very 80s...which I like

These are probably already in your collection too, but come to mind:

moving units
LCD sound system
the faint
junior boys
Simian mobile disco,  different vocals but electronic/loops are similar
new young pony club, female vocals but similar electro/disco-y retro rock beat
agree with fischerspooner
maybe hot chip

Nice, I love Hot Chip and LCD myself, Moving Units are a bit more on the punk tip but they are pretty tight too.

I've been meaning to check out SMD, heard lots of good things about them.

Thanks low.pfile!

I just got done sampling your recommendations.  I tried one Hot Chip CD and just a couple songs grabbed me (but super fun).  Which CD do you recommend of theirs?

Junior Boys are good.  Especially the song Teach Me How To Fight... wow.

I just added these new guys to my wish list: (all way fun so far)

PIL (very cool, Public Image Limited, right?)
Moving Units (I kept hearing about them too...wow)
Simian Mobile Disco (way fun already!)
New Young Pony Club
LCD Sound System

Here is my scrap play list I put together to sample the new artists: www.seeqpod.net/search/?plid=75f2daf1b5

Thanks again!  Between you and Hicks I feel swamped in great new music possiblities.  I love that feeling...   :thumb:

hey, glad I can point those out to you. those are sorta mainstream to me always looking for the new new bands.

For Hot Chip I like the CD The Warning much more than the new album. I missed the concert last month or so....had tickets but was majorly sick. Just saw Death Cab on Saturday though. Yes PublicImageLimited.

And thanks to you on the Seeqpod link! Didn't know that site existed.

......just a 41 yr old music junkie trying to find and listen to good music. just like you!

cheers,
