Being a festive fellow, does anyone know of any well recorded X-mas CD's??  Listening to Andrea Bocelli's singing of Ave Maria right now makes me wonder???

The Nutcracker is nice this time of year.
Vince Gill has two Christmas Cd's.  The first has "Do You Hear What I Hear" which floors me everytime I hear it.

Do you have any John Marks CD's??  They certainly are well-recorded, and the "Rejoice" series might appeal to anyone into string quartets.

By all means get The Chieftains CD.  Great combination of traditional and new carols.  Jackson Browne's "Rebel Jesus" is the xmas song for our era.

I also like the Jethro Tull xmas CD.  Again a fine mixture of traditional and new compositions.  Very English.

If you want something light-hearted but, musical and well-recorded, I recommend the Squirrel Nut Zipper's Christmas album.

I also have the Muppets Christmas which is well-recorded.

Rock on,
Carl

Recommend mixing in Lou Rawls Christmas album.  Makes a wonderful contrast to the Nat King Cole tracks as well (which is my own favorite as well) :D .

Another to consider might be Holly Cole's "Baby, It's Cold"

She's also on a compilation "Count Your Blessings" with Jane Siberry, Mary Margaret-O'hara:

Of the two of these, the first is the more consistent and better-sounding.

If you like instrumental stuff, especially brass, The Canadian Brass - A Christmas Experiment, is one of my personal favorites.  (It brings back memories of the years gone by when I used to play Christmas songs with the  high school band).

I accidentally started my Xmas listening today when playing William S. Burroughs' "Spare Ass Annie," forgetting that the track "Junkie's Christmas" is part of the CD. Actually, it's a very good track (but probably not one you'd want to play for Aunt Ethel) detailing a junkie trying to score on Christmas.  Though it deals with the down-and -outers, it ends with a gift that is as much in the Christmas spirit as any of the more traditional holiday fare.  It has been made into a video that's either animation or claymation:  MTV or VH1 has shown it on occasion.
