I've been trying to get as much metadata into my images as possible and have been messing around with Adobe Bridge.  Is there a utility or does anyone know of a means to swap\copy\populate EXIF\IPTC fields to one another?  For instance, I want to copy the Date Created field in "File Properties" to the Date Created field in the "IPTC Core" section.  I am not sure why there's so much redundant stuff in there.  Kind of a hairy business.

I'd be interested in hearing what tools people like for IPTC data management in general.

Sorry Nathan, but I don't know of a tool that could do what you want off-hand.

Hey!

Interesting. Sorry can't help you there.

But maybe drphoto might know about this. :D

Take care,

Try ThumbsPlus version 7.0 for Windows.   http://www.cerious.com/featuresv7.shtml.  I think this may work.

Editing IPTC info from the main window (File | Edit IPC Info...) will now retain the original file dates if the option is selected in Options | Preferences | General (Retain original date/time...).

There's an excellent program for dealing with Metadata and other editing duties.  It's called Photo Mechanic. It's not free, but a great program that many pros use.

Thanks for the props SET ( or maybe you just think I'm a blowhard ) but I barely know what he's talking about, let alone have an answer.

I do use PhotoMechanic, as jcpix mentioned, but only for image editing.

Hey jc, cute cat. I have a tuxedo kitty here in the studio.

Hey!

You too eh? Yeah, I was scratching my head trying to visualize what Nathan wants to do.

Thought that you might know. I never came across the need of doing this. Anyway, maybe Nathan could explain more and why?

Take care,

I'm just experimenting at the moment.  I downloaded all my images from Flickr because I want to put them up on my own site and when I upload them to this gallery thingy ( I don't want to give the URL as it isn't done yet)  they are all sorted either alphabetically or by date modified as per the Mac OS file dialog.  I wanted to get the list sorted by when I took the photos.  I just wondered if there was a way to synchronize fields and copy data from one field to another.  It's easy enough to select a bunch and change a field for everything, but since each series of photos has its own creation date I couldn't think of a way to batch it besides copy\paste for each one.
