Hi Ray,

If we have a tranny with FR (frequency response) of 5 to 80khz at -1db and an active preamplifier with an FR of 1hz to 100khz at -1db, the Tranny will be More reactive. Not all active preamps have these good of specs though.

Take care.

Hi Ray,

I want to follow up on the basic issue of "tube rectification" issue. Many designs are flawed by several basic mechanisms in the power supply. The result is ringing, "bright sound" etc caused by improper and non linear flawed design and filtering stages.

The rectifier tube has moderate plate resistance, so helps dampen the design. Reducing  noise is also a problem but can be easily overcomed without resorting to a tube rectifier.

Hope this helps Ray.

The 7A has been refined to sound even better. But because of parts price increases the past few months, I now have two, the basic and premium models. It is now ready for sale.

The premium model uses sealed selector, balance, and volume controls, and Jenalabs wire. The basic model uses less expensive controls and wire, but sounds 98% as good as the premium model. The basic wholesales for $989.00 while the premium model wholesales for $1295.00.

In either model, the 7As are keepers so one won't see used ones for sale very often.

Take care.

Hi Steve,

The 7 still is using 6922's? Did you ever investigate the 6830's?

Did you ever come to the conclusion of the output impedance of the 7?

So what am I giving up getting the 7 versus the 10? Now I understand there is some difference between the 10 and 11. But since the premium 7 is close to the 10 price point relatively speaking, just thought I would ask.
