BluRay with XP?
« on: 7 Apr 2008, 05:38 pm »
I just bought myself a new music sever and I decided I may as well make it a media server.  Now I am reading that bluray will not work on XP.  Is this true?  I also need HDCP on both my graphics card and motherboard?  I know the graphics card I bought does but the mobo does not say on the web page.  I really don't want vista hmmmm.

EDIT:  I think I anwsered my own question thanks....

As someone who was looking to do Blue Ray on their future PC, can you let me know what you found out?

well it looks like as long as you have a HDCP graphics card and monitor you wil be able to work it.  I may just get a PS3 though.  I will keep you posted

I was looking at this the beginning of the year, and the drawback for me is that PC's don't do 7.1 PCM over HDMI yet.

I guess if you have a 7.1 sound card, you could run eight RCA's from your PC to receiver, but I did not really want to do it, so I was going to wait until they start making video cards that can support HDMI sound.

And, in the end, I'll probably just buy a blu ray player.  It's more user friendly for the family than a PC.
