Thanks for the comments guys.

KLH, Mine are 48" tall.  It is my understanding that D'Appolito configurations are suppose to be extra sensitive to tweeter position with regard to alignment with the ear.  When I asked Danny how low I could place the tweeter he said between 36" and 40", basically at ear level when seated.  I can tell you that the speaker still sounds great when I stand up so there is some play there.  I'm not certain how going shorter and leaning the speaker back would affect the sound.

Best,
Ed

Danny,  How far under the tweeter before you compromise sound quality?
If the tweeter is centered at 40" on the ob7... How many inches under that can you safely go? - my couch is this lazyboy reclining thing that sits low and reclines even lower. I think about 34" ear height...

If you need to you can shorten a few inches with no problem.

It maintains a very good and very even off axis response in the vertical range.

Here is an OB-7 plus vertical off axis:

This is from only 1 meter away and each measurement was made moving the mic up 4" at a time. So on axis (red), up 4" (orange), up 8" (yellow) and up 12" (green).

The standard OB-7 looks even better.

Ebag4 or Danny,

I am thinking of using 2*M130 in MTM configuration, are you using the 16ohm version or the 8ohm version.

The latter gives a slight better effciency about 96db which is compatible with the neo ribbon tweeter, hence no need for resistive attenuation and possibly easier x-over design between neo and M130.

I have 2*M130(8 ohm version) already, buying additional 2 units then I am ready to rock.

The OB5/7 use the 16 ohm drivers in parallel for the MTM section, that is what I am using.

At some point I may try a version of this speaker using the same MTM section but try a pair of the SW-12-16FR woofers below it. Those are the new 12" Direct Servo controlled woofers that are designed to operate in free air.

The bottom end control should be great, but the question is will they play up high enough to reach them with the highest crossover point on the plate amps being 160Hz. We'll see.

Any word on the OB MTM + 12" Direct Servo woofers?  These would definitely be speakers I'd take a long look at getting.

Denny and I have been working on this new model (enclosure design). There are a lot of really new things going into this model that takes everything to the next level.

I won't be offering it as a kit though. It is a little too involved to be a kit. It will be offered fully assembled and ready to play.

Now my interest has really been piqued.  Can't wait to hear more about it.

Not saying, eh?

Who will it be assembled by, GR Research or will it be like the LS-6 and LS-9 and be built by AV123?

It's a collaborative effort between us and GR Research that has been evolving over the course of the year, it is still a ways off from being finalized. We are still in the testing phase of a number of features that will make this a really unique speaker system. We're not saying what it will be, yet. We will debut it at RMAF 2008 in the GR Research room.

And there's more....
