Hey guys. I am hoping to get a Modwright Transporter (and possibly a 36.5) that will be replacing a McCormack UDP-1 Deluxe Edition. I am curious what players this piece has replaced for others? And what some thoughts and comparisions are? Thanks, and I look forward to the replies.

My Modwright TP replaced, for redbook only, the fabulous Modwright Denon 3910 Platinum Signature modded universal.  I still use that player for it's great tubed hi-rez.  The Modwright 3910 replaced another of Dan's beauties, the Sony 999ES Platinum.

My TP replaced a Modwright Sony 999ES DVD/SACD/CD player.
I have a stand alone video scaler, which I now feed with one of the Oppo universal players and this takes care of my video/SACD/DVD-A needs.

My prime objective is to maximize 2 channel needs, and this is where the TP fulfills my needs.  I enjoyed my 999ES, it was a difficult act to follow at this price point. From a sonic perspective I find the TP to be more 'musical', there are lots of standard hi-fi words that reviewers use to describe this, but I find it easier to relate to reality.  A good example is percussion, I hear a distinct difference between different types of drum - when the skin is hit and when the drum note finishes are easy to differentiate, it sounds like a drum and not a representation of a drum.  Vocals are also smoother, an acoustic bass sounds like an acoustic bass.  I also hear more detail, background instruments or nuances in the music that I haven't heard before and without sounding harsh or brittle.  Overall I just find myself spending more time enjoying and listening to music.

Trust this helps.

Customer Feedback - Replaced Burmester CDP:

First impression of the Transporter: It's just fantastic. The only digital musicplayer that I have ever heard that comes anywhere close to the Transporters realism and analogue way of communicating is the top-of-the-line CDP from Accuphase I heard at a show last year. However, I do think the Transporter beats it on dynamics. My own Burmester CDP has now been firmly dethroned.

Well, it seems as of today my McCormack is sold. I was really hoping to keep it around for A/B comparisions with the Transporter as well as high-rez multi-channel. But sometimes money talks

I guess now I need an Oppo for my high-rez stuff...

Has anyone here compared their Transporter to a vinyl setup?  Thanks.
