HELP: Radio through amp or long speaker run?
« on: 30 Mar 2008, 08:30 pm »
Dear Troubleshooters:

Greetings.

I have noticed that a few hours after I play a CD, I can hear a radio signal very faintly through my speakers.  I turn off the CD player and preamp or switch to a different input on the preamp -- no change.  I power off the amp and it does stop.  It bothers me and it is driving my wife crazy -- to the point that she wants to turn off the stereo and use a little clock radio instead.

My setup:  RAM-modified Toshiba DVD player -> Magwires -> Muse Pre -> Magwires -> Teac/Bolder A700 -> (long run (20+ feet) of relatively cheap speaker wire -- rat shack) -> Clements RT-7s.

Power is running through a BPT unit.

Is there a RF filter or ferrite-core or something that I can add to the system (or around the speaker wires) that will fix this problem.

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Scott

Hey!

Hmmm.... I will give this a shot.

When you said Magwires are they unshielded magnet wire type IC? If so it is likely that this is where you are picking up the radio signal. Especially if that the IC is longer than 1 meter.

Also, if your speaker are coiled in to a loop than you might want to uncoiled them. And this applied to IC also. :D

Ferrite core could be put around speaker and IC cable but I don't know how much it will help. And the ferrite core will change the sound of your system and you might not like that. :D

   Anyway, good luck.
