Tell Me About Bipole vs. Single Driver

Bipole seems like a driver format Omega has had good success with but not sure I understand the physical setup, what kind of power to drive it, the benefits vs. single driver, fit in different rooms and with different music, why no one else seems to be doing this, etc.  Is it as simple as two full rangers working together - guess I would benefit from bipole 101.  Looked for some reviews of the bipoles but think all I have found is just the single driver version on 6 moons.

I have the Omega Super 3 Bipoles and love them.  Mine are set up in dipole mode which seems to add more dimension to an already impressive wall of sound.  While I'm sure the speakers would better be able to do their thing if I had them in a larger room, they do very well for me set just 3 feet from the wall.  I utilize dampening panels behind the speakers and DRC via the Inguz plug-in on my SB to produce very holographic sound.

I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will chime in, but in the mean time search Louis' space here.  There are a few good explanations of the bipoles I'm sure you'd find enlightening.  One aspect of bipoles is they produce more bass.

Hi DavidS,

Thanks and thanks for posting bprice2. I have a soft spot for the bipoles and like them for a number of reasons. The biggest is the huge and deep soundstage. The bass is very good with them no worry about baffle step issues. The double drivers can handle complex and demanding music. The versatility (bipole and dipole) and (4 or 16 ohm loads). The biggest drawback is needing a lot of space behind them.

Thanks,
Louis
