No one has mentioned that many foil capacitors are extremely microphonic.  That is where, in my opinion, the problem lies......  not with inductors, which incidentally should be laid out along the xyz axes;  one flat, one left-right, and one front-back.

Bear in mind that many microphones are made using the two electrodes of a capacitor.

As usual Hugh has pinpointed a problem area that all have overlooked in this discussion.  It is well known that foil caps are microphonic. Likewise so are foil inductors if they are not wound so tight and each layer is lacquered in order to make them less suspectable to vibrations. Most xovers do not use foil caps due to the cost/marginal but significant improvement in the end sound. But if foil caps are used keep them well away from any source of vibrations and that could mean outside the box. Amen!
