Power cord with choke
« on: 28 Feb 2008, 05:58 pm »
Hi there.

I posted this on the Nuforce forum, but have not had any replies.

So here it goes............

The stock power cord that comes with the Ref 8.5 V's appear to have a choke on them.

When considering an after market power cord, is this going to be an issue? I have not seen many after market cords with chokes on them.

Like anything else, the answer is "it could", but you'll never know until you try. Generally I've found that chokes can improve the sound on source components, but tend to "choke" the dynamics on amps. But YMMV.

Enjoy,
Bob

It's also possible that nuforce puts a choke or a ferrite in the cord to reduce the amount of RF hash from the amps that gets into the remainder of your system. An after market cord may make this worse if that's the case.

Have sent many power cords to my clients.  AudioQuest models have the chokes your looking for.

I believe Virtual dynamics uses magnets for their "Speed of Light" theory cords...

They do indeed use magnets.

Please keep in mind VD cords are some of the most expensive cords out there...

Don't they stand apart in that regard?  Where else can you spend more than $13K for just one power cord?
