Can anyone identify this speaker?
« on: 12 Jun 2012, 02:24 pm »

I've recently acquired a pair of these and I would like to know more about them. They are similar to pictures I've seen on the web, but not exactly the same as any. There are two sets of connections on the back, with some instructions about bi-amping. They sound great.

Those are standard Tower II from about 20 years ago.

Yes, one of B's great and popular designs.

I had a pair and loved'em.

The little black spot on the top is actually a little speaker grill for a "ceiling firing" tweeter for ambiance.

Thanks for the help. And in response to this private message I received from ST86:

Hi Barry,

Saw your post about the Tower ii and I have a question.  Are the drivers for both of your speakers laid out the same or are they mirror imaged?

Thanks,

Ed

Yes, they are in fact mirror imaged. Now I am wondering why that would be. Is one specific speaker supposed to be the left channel, and if so, which?

And by the way, Ed, I couldn't reply to your message because apparently that feature requires 3 approved posts.

Thanks Barry.  I asked because over the past year I aquired a pair of Tower ii's from the late 80's, more or less.  They are not mirror imaged, both speakers are arrainged like the photo above.  It doesn't matter much to me because I use them for home theater rear channels but it got me wondering because every other speaker from that era that I am aware of is mirror imaged.

As far as which one is the left speaker and which one is the right, with the mirror image arraingment they are typically set up with the midrange and treble drivers closest to each other.

Regards,

Ed
