New system using Emerald Physics CS2
« on: 11 Dec 2007, 02:16 pm »
My CS2's should be here by the end of next week,,, intended to be used with Ric Schultz' EVS amps and a Sonic Euphoria PLC as the control unit.  I'm primarily a vinylphile and will use a tricked out EAR 84P as my phono stage.  I want to feed a DVD/CD player, a computer/music server and maybe an FM tuner into the system  - no Squeezebox,  I've been that route before and prefer direct/hard wired inputs.  My thoughts have been to feed digital sources through a high quality DAC, but now I'm seeing that this may be redundant.

I'm open to suggestions on optimizing this system.  Highest quality sound is my main objective.  Any ideas are welcome.

BTW: I'm aware of the info out there modifying/improving the DCX and fully expect to do that.

Have you got this system up and running yet? Very curious as to the sound with the EVS amps.

I am using my CS2 speakers with a Dodd battery powered preamp and I am very happy with the results.  I also have the EVS amps that I am using for the upper drivers, and I am using heavily modified Bel Canto Ref 1000 amps for the bass drivers.  The sound is fast, accurate, and musical.

I will be getting a modified DCX 2496 from Ric in the next couple weeks to complete the assemble. :D

I've been in and out of town and trying hard to get some hours on the speakers.
So far, so good!  I heard the EVS amps on another pair of speakers I had around and was amazed at how much better the sounded than the B&K Mosfet amp I'd been listening to.  Of course I've heard amplifier changes make improvements in a system before, but never to this degree - a quantum leap in clarity and musicality.  They are now working their magic on the CS2's.  Seems like a great match.

and Greg,,, since we're "riding the same trail" so to speak I'd very much like to continue to compare notes.

Hi Doak,

Hows the sound after you had them awhile now. I am considering a pair of EVS 100M for my CS-2's currently shipping?

Thanks
