Broken driver upgrade for bass in RM1. HELP!
« on: 7 Jan 2008, 05:40 am »
My *^$^$@#*&@*)ing cat  just shredded another bass driver surround on my RM-1. She did it about 2 months ago to one and I replaced it. Now I need 1 more! $^%&@$#$*&  So now do I try to upgrade somehow or go back to stock. Anyone out there done this before? I was looking at usher drivers on parts express but maybe its not so simple. Brian is gone to CES and I've sold my #1 system speakers. My system #2's are the rm1's. I'm down to headphones and my HT system. Yikes!! Please help. :bawl:

Perhaps, but they are great speakers for my second system. I was hoping someone had modded a pair and could help me. I am buying a new set for system #1 and might change system #2, but I'm not ready to sell yet. Who knows?

I would imagine that like all quality speakers the crossover for the RM1 is optimized for the specific drivers, so I would recommend simply getting the woofer(s) refoamed.  Of course Brian is final say on this, but I’ve been a DIYer off and on for years, and I can’t imagine you’re going to be able to replace the woofers without noticeably changing the system sound.   In fact, I would suggest that either get Brian to refoam them, or at least have him supply the surrounds, because all surrounds are not alike.

I have a pair of these and they are definitely worth the effort to get them back to Brian’s specs.

Good luck.

Defaulds is correct.

Brian would be the only one who could tell you whether he has the ability to repair the driver, replace it, or suggest a substitute.

However you may need to "bump" your question after the 15th, which will likely be when B, will be back to functional capacity after Vegas.
