FS: Mapletree Audio EAR+ Purist HD kit w/extras
« on: 5 Jan 2008, 01:08 am »
For sale is my Mapletree EAR+ Purist HD headphone amp kit with custom side panels and thingamabob from "someyoungguy" here on AC.  Kit includes all the normal parts in the original kit plus black gate PS cap upgrade, and the end panels and custom wooden knob previously mentioned.

This is what I believe to be the latest version of this kit, which included two separate output jacks -- one for high z and one for low z headphones.

The end panels are approx. 5/8" thick curly maple, highly polished and with 4 tiny (approx 1/4") brass cones underneath, and the knob is the same wood with a brass dot insert for a pointer.

I just have too many projects in the pipeline and this one seems to keep slipping to the bottom of the priority list, so it's time to sell it to the next guy.  The chassis is RCA red, and I believe you can see pictures on Scott's web site at:

http://pages.sbcglobal.net/quackfat/index.html

This kit now costs $640, plus another $90 for the black gate cap upgrade, and the total for all the woodwork and the brass cones came to another $200 or more, so all told this kit cost me about $900 (not including all shipping costs from Canada and back-and-forth to Scott) and I'm selling for $625 shipped in the lower 48 and with no paypal fee.  I'll also throw in a GE 5751 triple mica as described here:

Here is a very nice single GE JG-5751 tube manufactured in the USA.
This tube is recognized as one of the very best 12AX7 substitutes.
White lettering is mostly gone, but partial date code of 4-5? is visible
indicating it was built in the last two weeks of 1954.
Tube has three micas, black plates, copper grid posts, and an angled square D getters.
In other words, all of the good stuff.
Tube tested strong on my Sencore
TC-162 tester with emissions reading of 86/86, so you have matched sections.  There
were no shorts or grid leakage detected, and the life test was excellent.

So, all this and no wait in the Mapletree queue.

I'll be putting this on audiogon as soon as I can verify the wood selections with Scott.

Thanks for looking,

Jim

Here's a direct picture link to what I believe to be Jim's item on Scott's page:

It's described as "Curly maple side panels and maple burl Thingamaknob"

Thanks, Brad -- that's the one -- curly maple side panels and maple burl thingamabob.  I'll drop the price to $600 for an AC member as I'm asking $625 on agon -- which is still a great deal considering it's a kit and never used, and all virgin components.

Here's the link to the agon ad:

Thanks,

Jim
