Dipole line arrays with a single tweeter - good idea?

I purchased 26 Dayton RS150s over a year ago to build a pair of line arrays that never took off.  What I'm wanting to do now is build a pair of dipole line arrays with 12 RS150s per side crossed over to a single, dome tweeter.  Behind the line arrays will be stereo dipole sub line arrays with 6 cheaper 12" subs per side.  I've done some prototyping and testing on these and they sound better than any sub I've ever heard before.  I'm hoping to be able to cross to the subs around 70-80hz to the RS150s and then cross to the tweeter around 2khz, all while using a DCX2496.  This will be used in my dedicated 2-channel room at a listening distance of around 8 feet so I will optimize the tweeter crossover for that distance.  I have heard some arrays in the past with a single ribbon tweeter and they sounded great but after reading Zaph's measurements on the ribbons and knowing I won't need unreal output from the arrays I'm leaning more towards a good, low-distortion dome tweeter.

What I'm looking for are any suggestions, tips, talk-me-out-ofs, you name it!  I could still sell the RS150s and recoup most of my investment and go with a more conventional MT or MTM dipole but I'm really liking the idea of a 6 foot+ speaker with extremely low distortion.  The one concern I do have is the cancellation of the outermost drivers with the tweeter.  Maybe I'm just being paranoid?  :?

Well, ... if you do decide to use a single tweeter with a line of RS150's

1. you'll be losing out on half the fun if you don't pick an efficient enough tweeter . No point padding down a woofer or tweeter line excessively.
2. Of course, a tweeter line will sound different from a single tweeter, but not necessarily better or worse. One thing you must realize though is that a single tweeter's output will drop faster with distance compared to a line.
2. don't worry too much about all the talk on the web about ribbons etc. Just do it.  At the worst, don't drill the tweeter holes and just tack on a single suitable tweeter temporarily. If you think you might like a tweeter line better, drill some more holes.

For your tweeter look at the Vifa DX25 (or AC25 if can find them)  Both have higher efficiency than most tweeters.  You would need steepish slopes at 2k though.

There were also a couple of horn load tweeters that might be still available and would definitely have enough.  eg Vifa H26TG, Peerless 811647

I would use 10 a mids side not 12, and use them in a 3-2-2-3 power tapering so they will better match sound pattern of the tweeter.  Sorta builds a lobe of sound about the tweeter.

And yes.. It will work very nicely if you get it right  :green:
