iMod hard drive replacement?
« on: 21 Dec 2007, 04:26 pm »
I just finished comparing my lover's new ipod classic (160gb) with my 4G iMod, and am happy to report that we both preferred the iMod (and she has occasional reservations about the worth of my audio purchases). My Cary CD player still wins the battle by a long shot, but that is to be expected. The comparison was on a nice SET amp, it will be interesting to see if it is obvious on her Anthony Gallo speakers and T-amp.

So, the point of the post is that now I really want a 160gb hard drive in my iMod! Anyone know if it is possible to either get a big replacement drive for the 4G or to swap drives between the classic and 4G?

Hi Lee,

Welcome to audiocircle and the RWA forum!

Unfortunately, the 160GB drive in the Classic uses a different connector than the 4G and 5G/5.5G iPods, so you cannot swap them.  You can't  even swap the 5G/5.5G iPod hard drives into the 4G iPods and vice versa.

Best regards,

Vinnie

Thanks for the quick reply Vinnie!

Leave it to Apple to make hardware that is not interchangeable. Do you know what the biggest hard drive replacement that will work for the 4G (this is a color one, perhaps it is the photo) currently is?

Best,

Lee
