NuForce 8.5 V2 with Thiel 3.6?
« on: 6 Dec 2007, 03:53 pm »
Hello,

I'm new to this circle and was looking for some guidance. I have a line on a pair of NuForce 8.5 V2 amps at a nice price.  I'm concerned about how the amps will handle the Thiel 3.6, a notoriously difficult speaker to drive. I'm currently using a PS Audio HCA-2, which sounds a bit laid back way on top--I'm told this is characteristic of this amp when driving difficult loads.

Anyone out there have sense of how this pairing will work? The room is small (13 x 13, although the wall behind the listening position opens into another room). Source will be a Rega Saturn. My preamp, for now, is a Quicksilver Linestage.  I listen to every kind of music possible. Thanks for your help.

Jon

Just give it a try. You can upgrade to Ref 9 V2 for $500 per unit.

Well, I guess that's one way to go, but I'd just as soon hear some feedback before just jumping in.

No one out there has tried NuForce amps with Thiel speakers? Thanks.

Here's one very satisfied customer using Thiel 2.4:

You can use the Audiocircle Search to target just a specific circle such as Nuforce.

I haven't heard that particular combination but judging from the speakers specs I think you would be better off with the 9.02's. You can buy some used and have them upgraded to the V2 model when you want or just go for the V2's. I've got the latter running some Magnepan 1.6's a low sensitivity  4 ohm speaker and they sound very nice.
