Audax T24BP9 Alnico Full Range
« on: 22 Nov 2007, 12:00 pm »
Hi guys,

I'm new here (In OB but not in High End audio  :P ), And I was wondering if someone had information on the AUDAX T24PB9 ALNICO fullrange driver?
I know it's an old one but I just built an open baffle 50 cm wide per 100 cm high out of a 2 cm thick solid wood, and
installed a FOSTEX FE126E on it. Now I found the AUDAX to maybe replace the Fostex. (better bass I think)

Any idea or comments from you guys?

Almost anything would have better bass than FE126 on an OB... Is  low Q means that even on a huuge baffle it will be rolling off below 250 Hz.

Can you post a pic of the Audax... with an alnico motor it is going to predate my experience.

Hi Dave Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in answering. I've posted pictures of the driver under Audax T24PB9.

Hope you can help.

By the way they are now installed on an open baffle and they soud superb with the KT88 amp.

Cheers

That looks a perfect place for them... small alm=nico magnet, over 50 years old, Q is going to be up over 1, probably quite a bit higher than that so a fairly narrow OB to counter that could work really well.

Thanks Dave

Do you mean that 50 cm is to large ? 15 cm on one side and 10 an the other. Also the wood pannel is damped on all surfaces, front and back with thick multi fibers uncarpet packed tissue.
I wasn't sure about that, the back maybe but the front ?????

See ya

You can on;y really know by measuring and listening. Knowing the Q would give you the ability to do a 1st order calculation. 50 cm is fairly narrow... my baffles are 1.2 x 1.1m and there would be some bass peaking with them.

Yes Now its a game of try and listen. I found them a lot directional, I mean theres a good sweet spot, like electrostatics. They remind me of an old pair of Magies 1;5 qr I had when I was in Canada.

I think I'll first try to remove the front damping and see what happens.

Anyway

Thats why I like this hobby, for less than 100 euros its fantastic and something to be proud of.
